Friedrich Schneider

Friedrich Schneider is currently Full Professor of Economics at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. His research interests include economic theory of policy, finance, economic and environmental policy. His analyses focus on the economic effects of government policy and interventions as well as the economic analysis of causes, which determine the size and development of the shadow economy and its interaction of the official one. He has held visiting professorships at the University of Stockholm (1982), Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh (1983/1984), La Trobe University in Melbourne (1987), and the University of the Saarland (1994/1995). He was President of the Austrian Economic Association from 1997 to 1999 and became an IMF Research Fellow in 1998. He was President of the European Public Choice Society in the years 1987/88 and 1995/96. Since 2005 he is President of the German Economic Association.
