International Workshop on
Recent Issues in Economic Geography
2-3 December 2010, Leuven (Belgium)

jointly organized by the
Leuven Centre for Irish Studies, K.U.Leuven
and the
International Network for Economic Research (INFER)

This workshop brings together international economists on recent topics in economic geography. It provides an opportunity to discuss related research in a relaxed atmosphere. The workshop accepts papers in the field of economic geography, broadly defined, including regional, trade and growth issues. Researchers are invited to submit both empirical and theoretical papers that are consistent with the workshop’s special topic.
In particular, we welcome papers from the following fields:
- Location decisions of multinationals
- Spatial tax competition
- Growth and its spatial implications
- The impact of geography on international trade
- Dynamics of urban and regional development
- The organization of the value chain
- Spatial implications for the labour market
- Organizing industrial spaces

Keynote Speakers
We are happy to welcome the following internationally distinguished keynote speakers:
- Prof. Dr. Marius Brülhart (University of Lausanne)
- Prof. Dr. Ron Davies (University College Dublin)

Organization
The workshop is jointly organized by the Leuven Centre for Irish Studies and the International Network for Economic Research (INFER).
The Leuven Centre for Irish Studies is a research centre that was recently set up at the Catholic University of Leuven, with the support of the Irish government. It is located in the historical (and recently renovated) Irish College in Leuven. The Economics Division of the Centre focuses on economic issues related to small open economies. In particular the Centre’s research deals with international trade, foreign direct investments, innovation, labour market issues etc. The Leuven Centre for Irish Studies cooperates with many other research departments of the Catholic University of Leuven, as well as with several international research partners, in particular in Ireland. Submission of Papers
Only full papers may be submitted, preferably in pdf-format. Papers should be submitted to Karolien De Bruyne by e-mail: karolien.debruyne@econ.kuleuven.be

Deadline for paper submission is October 5, 2010.

Authors are allowed to submit more than one paper. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed according to a high-quality and fast referee process. By the middle of October, authors will be notified whether their paper is accepted for presentation at the workshop.

Paper presenters are expected to discuss one other paper during the workshop. The discussant assignments will be made by the workshop organizers at a later date. As the workshop intends to build a network in this research area, participation is welcome even without paper contributions.

INFER Workshop on
Entrepreneurship in the Global Economy:
Economics, Innovation, Competition and Social Change

Workshop Objectives
This INFER workshop provides an opportunity for all economists interested to exchange ideas, to create links in research and to meet fellows in related subject. Researchers are invited to submit theoretical and applied papers broadly consistent with the topic of the workshop “Entrepreneurship in the Global Economy: Economics, Innovation, Competition and Social Change”. This workshop is organised by the Competition Theory and Policy and the Bounded Rationality working group.

We welcome papers from the following fields:
- Economic Policies and Entrepreneurship
- Entrepreneurship practices and Business Models
- Regional development and Emergent markets challenges
- Corporate entrepreneurship and Innovation
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Credit Crunch and Entrepreneurship
- Market Structure and Business Models

The workshop is open to anybody involved in these research areas, including both young and
experienced researchers, Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers, and professionals from
business, government and non-governmental institutions.

Keynote speakers will be invited to speak on this year’s topic.

The workshop is open to anybody involved in economic issues related with the topic, including both young and experienced researchers from academics and research institutes, post-doctoral students, and professionals from business, government and non-governmental institutions.
Submission of Papers
Only full papers may be submitted. All papers should be submitted electronically to the workshop organizers, as doc or pdf files (preferably pdf):

Deadline for paper submission is June 5, 2010.

All papers must include a cover page with the following information:
• An abstract of up to 500 words, with JEL classification and no more than 5 key words;
• Authors’ full name, affiliation;
• Contact details for corresponding author, such as address, phone, and e-mail.

Papers must be in English and should not exceed 25 pages (A4 or letter) including all references, tables and appendix. The text should be formatted in Times New Roman 14pt with 1.2 line space and 2.5 cm (1 inch) margin on each side. Footnotes should be formatted in 12pt with 1.2 line space. Please avoid colors in graphs and pages in landscape.
All papers will be peer reviewed.

Authors of accepted papers will be notified no later than: July 5, 2010.

Paper presenters are expected to discuss one other paper during the workshop. The discussant assignments will be made by the workshop organizers at a later date.

Location

The workshop will be held at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Babeš-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, street Theodor Mihali no.58-60, postal code 400591 (university campus).

Cluj-Napoca lies approximately 440 km north-west of Bucharest, in the valley of Somesul Mic River. The city used to be the capital of the historical province of Transylvania and is one of the most important, academic, cultural and an industrial center in Romania today.The origin of the Transylvanian University dates back to the 16th century with a Jesuit College and its history was profoundly linked with the history of our country. It was set up as a Romanian University 88 years ago, in November 1919. The university takes part in international networks: the European University Association, the International Association of Universities as well as in regional networks- the Danube Rectors’Conference and the Association of Carpathian University. Call for Papers

International Workshop on
Negative Nominal Interest Rates: History and current proposals

This workshop provides an opportunity for all those interested in the subject of negative nominal interest rates to discuss their research and to exchange ideas. Researchers are invited to submit both empirical and theoretical papers that are broadly consistent with the workshop’s special topic.

The workshop is open to anybody involved in these research areas, including both young and experienced researchers, Ph.D. students, post-doctoral researchers, and professionals from business, government and non-governmental institutions. A selection of papers will be published in a workshop volume and/or a special issue in one of INFER’s co-operating journals.

Paper Submission
We welcome any historical, theoretical, empirical and policy-oriented papers that deal with negative interest rates and their implications. Abstracts (of no more than 200 words) and papers should be submitted electronically (word doc or pdf format) NLT

Registration and Registration Fee
The registration fee for presenting and non-presenting participants will be:
• INFER members/institutional members: 60 EUR
• Non-members: 120 EUR
Please note: the annual membership fee for private INFER members is 25 EUR only (institutional INFER members 200 EUR). You are invited to become a member!

The registration fee includes all lunches, drinks etc. during the workshop. It doesn’t include travel and accommodation expenses. All workshop participants have to register for the workshop. Please note that paper submission is not regarded as a registration.

In case of registrations after 15th of July, the fees will be increased by 50%.

The conference will be held at the University of Muenster, Germany. Münster is a city full of history and full of stories; it is a city which has remained young at heart for more than 1200 years. High-tech and traditional trade, baroque noble residences and modern architecture, a historic city centre and progressive urban development are not opposites in Münster, but merely features of a lively city more than half of whose inhabitants are younger than 30 years of age. As the so-called "desktop" of Westphalia, Münster is an important location for the coordination of business, administration, science, culture and the social life of the region.
